◆ Some authors attribute the use of these pieces to egg stands (for boiled eggs) without explaining the reason of the elliptical base when a circular one would be easier to manufacture and more in tune with the upper one. Furthermore, pieces of the same shape made of glass have been widely used in the west for the last hundred and fifty years to wash the eyes.
